Emily Carr Middle School
Welcome to our Web site.
Please visit the areas listed to on the left to get a taste of what
life is like in our school. We, the staff and students of Emily
Carr are very proud of our accomplishments and contributions.
Emily Carr Middle School is located at 2681 Innes Road in
Blackburn Hamlet. (MAP) It was opened in
1972-73 in response to the exploding population of eastern Gloucester.
Presently we serve the areas of Chapel Hill, Blackburn Hamlet and
Carlsbad Springs. Students enter this facility at the grade six
level from our community feeder schools, primarily, Glen Ogilvie
in Blackburn Hamlet and Forest Valley in Chapel Hill. Emily Carr
Middle School has evolved from a large open area regular program
middle school to a triple track middle school serving a population
of approximately 700 students, to the dual track school of approximately
300 students that it is now. Peter Symmonds is currently Principal.
Emily Carr Middle School is named after the well-known British Columbia
artist and writer whose paintings of West Coast native culture have
been accorded world recognition. We take pride in our Canadian heritage
and the diversity of global peoples who make our country so rich.
In keeping with this theme students are placed in one of three houses
- Bella Coola, Comox and Haida.
Students at Emily Carr Middle School are able to take advantage
of a wide variety of activities which are offered in addition to
the curricula. Students and parents will find that Emily Carr is
a school that has a very definite direction in Academics, leadership,
Athletics and Technology. Our Student Parliament program plays an
important role not only in the school, but also in the community.
